Super Tuscan wines vary in style, but the influence of Bordeaux is apparent in their use of new oak barrels and French grapes like cabernet sauvignon and merlot in addition to Sangiovese, "the classic grape of Tuscany". Winemaking in Tuscany is an ancient practice, however, the Super Tuscan style is a recent invention. Super Tuscans came about in the early 1970s when winemakers began saying fuck that to the rules for appellation wines of the region, such as Chianti DOC. This Seravino Super Tuscan 34% Sangiovese, 33% Merlot, and 33% Petite Sirah, this Supertuscan wine has a beautiful ruby color, a soft and perfectly balanced structure. With a tart and sweet cherries undertone, the oak aging on this wine allows lovely notes of chocolate, pepper, and coffee to shine through. The grapes for this Cru are grown on the Oragice estate vineyard, Poggio al Gallo.
